What we witnessed on a packed <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_819140920\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Monday<\/span><\/span> surpassed all expectations, and meant Paris left the strongest impression on us for two main reasons.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Firstly, there was incredible optimism about the start up scene in Paris &#8211; &#8216;the best place to be&#8217;, according to Amiel.\u00a0Some felt that the heightened spirit of open, conscious innovation and enterpreneurship\u00a0is embodied by new President and former Economic Minister Emmanuel Macron.\u00a0We could say the\u00a0same about some of\u00a0the 15 entrepreneurs we interviewed,\u00a0such as\u00a019 year-old entrepreneur, who impressed with his\u00a0aims to make the process of finding a lawyer cheaper and more\u00a0personal.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Other\u00a0causes\u00a0for optimism in the\u00a0Paris lawtech scene\u00a0include it&#8217;s\u00a0potential\u00a0to be\u00a0the\u00a0focal point\u00a0for\u00a0important francophone markets including Benelux, West Africa and Canada, and a competitive culture of entrepreneurship. How the market can better cooperate seems to be a burning question, although\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_819140921\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Monday&#8217;s<\/span><\/span> fantastic Village de la Legal Tech event (a collaboration between Legal Geek, Village de la Justice and Open Law)\u00a0was a fine example of a cooperative spirit, with\u00a0yet more quality pitches, rewarded with travel grants.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Secondly, there was a shared vision in the industry for lawtech to provide greater access to justice, with change already happening on all fronts.\u00a0New platforms, tools, information sources and communication styles are empowering citizens and startups with knowledge and effective legal advice, while a\u00a0focus on transparency (Open Law) is supporting the understanding and application of the law. There&#8217;s even a sense that while regulators and the government are more in touch &#8211; for example, we heard how Amiel&#8217;s company had successfully pushed a change in civic law, while Change.org&#8217;s presence <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_819140922\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Monday<\/span><\/span> hinted at new links to civic mobilisations.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We can&#8217;t wait to share some of the interviews with you all.
